UPS is bringing a brand new facility and nearly 600 new jobs to Plainfield in the next 6 years.
PLAINFIELD, Ind. (WTHR) - UPS announced today the construction of a new state-of-the-art facility in Plainfield. Along with it, the company expects to create more than 570 new high-wage jobs by 2023.
The package delivery company plans to invest $260 million for a building that will measure nearly 900,000 square feet on Bradford Road.
Construction has already begun, and is expected to be completed by 2019. Some operations in the facility are expected to start later this year.
"This major investment by UPS is more evidence that Indiana is a global logistics powerhouse," Governor Eric J. Holcomb said in a release this morning.
Hiring for package handling and drivers will begin this fall. Hired employees will begin training at various Indianapolis-area locations, then will be transferred to the new Plainfield location as it becomes active.
UPS says the positions should pay, on average, 45 percent higher than the state's average wage. Prospective employees can apply online.
The Indiana Economic Development Corporation (IEDC) offered UPS up to $200,000 in training grants and up to $7.5 million in conditional tax credits based on the company’s job creation plans. The incentives are performance-based, so the company won't be able to benefit from them until Hoosiers are actually working.
